This article explores the integration of symbolic Amazigh terms into French-language commercial signs in Béjaïa, analyzing their role as identity markers through a linguistic and socio-cultural lens. It examines historical place names, royal figures, and concepts of unity and pride, revealing a cultural revalorization effort against globalization. The study investigates the strategies behind this linguistic choice and its impact on Amazigh identity, using field observations, semiotic analysis, and interviews with shopkeepers and customers. It highlights how these signs reflect both a sense of belonging and commercial motives, showing that including Amazigh words is a deliberate act to preserve and promote cultural heritage in an urban setting.
