لطالما قيل إن الترجمة ممارسة سبقت التنظير، كما أن الجدل لازال قائما إلى يومنا هذا إن كان هناك للترجمة علم قائم بحد ذاته. نروم من خلال هذه الورقة البحثية إثبات أن التنظير في مجال الترجمة ليس بجديد كما هو متعارف عليه، بل إن ممارسة الترجمة أفضى منذ القدم إلى محاولة التقعيد لها ووضع معايير وأسس قامت عليها الدراسات الترجمية الحديثة. وقد كان للعرب نصيب وافر في هذا الأمر، حيث كان الجاحظ من أوائل من تطرق لموضوع الترجمة وبعض ما تعلق بسيرورتها. كما أن حنين بن إسحاق، بحكم ترجمته للكثير من المؤلفات إلى اللغة العربية، قد وضع لنفسه استراتيجيات خاصة به أثناء عملية النقل.
