Abstract

The context includes the factors that make the text linked to a prevailing situation that can be retrieved, and is a basic criteria of the study and the understanding of texts because of the interpretations of one text vary according to its context. The context is also one of the criteria of textuality, which is the most important element in the study of text linguistics, but in the field of translation, it is the responsibility of the translator to understand this context and to transfer it to the target language. In this context, it will be the theme of this research which aims to study the textual context in Jean Grosjean’s translation of the Holy Koran’s meanings in one of his Surahs "Al-Anam", in order to determine the degree of the translator’s respect of the context and how that Qur'anic context was adapted to the French language which differs greatly from the source language.
