This research aims to study the possibility of using terminological metaphor in translating some compound medical terms from French into Arabic through conducting an applied descriptive study and adopting content-analysis method to examine the translation of five compound embryology terms, selected from the book "Embryology" by Y. Benazzoug, M. Salem Bensalem, P. Bernado, T. Gernigon, and translated by Ali Sharif Hafsa. One o f the most important findings is that terminological metaphor plays an important role in translating medical compound terms from French into Arabic, whether through generation, without foreign terms’ semantic and morphologic influence, or through semantic borrowing which requires calquing both the morphologic and semantic features of foreign terms, or only the semantic ones. Moreover, it opens the door wide for terminologists and translators to dig out the linguistic heritage and enrich the medical jargon.
