ترجمة الاستعارة من الفرنسيّة إلى العربيّة: رواية L’étranger لألبير كامو بترجمة العيد دوان أُنْموذَجًا، دراسة تحليليّة نقديّة

Translation of Metaphor from French into Arabic in Albert Camus’«The Stranger» Novel, Translated by Eid Duane, an Analytic Critical Study.

Abstract

In this study, we seek to shed light on a figure of speech so called the «metaphor» which is commonly used in literary works due to the elegance and beauty it generates. It also touches upon the aforementioned figure of speech in both its direct and indirect parts in terms of its definition (lexically and contextually). On the other hand, it highlights some theories and strategies that were developed to translate the metaphor in addition to dedicating a part in which we analyze and criticize some of the metaphors’ translation we selected from Albert Camus's famous novel «The stranger», translated into Arabic by Eid Duane. We conclude this research by suggesting three strategies (concerning metaphor translation from French into Arabic): «translating metaphor into its dynamic equivalent», «translating metaphor into comparison with its four elements (full comparison)» and finally «translating it into metonymy».

 We seek through these strategies’ suggestion to ensure a good translation of this figure of speech from French language into Arabic that will preserve the aesthetic of the literary text in the target language.
