Abstract

Phonological performance, initially emerging as a phenomenon within the realm of Quranic reading and Tajweed rules, has recently transitioned into the domain of phonetics. It is utilized in teaching the articulation of letters, words, and sentences. The current phonological performance among learners is notably deficient for several reasons: the absence of the cognitive aspect in phonological performance, educators' indifference towards the proper pronunciation of learners, their lack of emphasis on pronunciation application during teaching speaking skills, and the significant influence of colloquial language on learners before school age, leading them to practice colloquial language during reading and conversation in the learning phase.

This research aims to explore the phonological performance of novice learners in particular, identify aspects of pronunciation defects, propose solutions to achieve proper phonological performance, and elucidate the role of educational institutions and Quranic schools in evaluating phonological performance.
