Translation Curricula in the Algerian University: An Analysis Based on a Competence Assessment Model

The present paper aims at the evaluation of translation curricula in the five Algerian universities of Oran, Algiers, Annaba, Mascara, and Tlemcen. The analysis is based on a competence assessment model which studies the degree to which the content of the five translation curricula contributes to the development of the following four competences: translational competence, specialized competence, methodological competence, and terminological competence. The Study findings show that almost all the learning modules employed play a certain role in fostering such competences, with little attention paid to the terminological competence. Therefore, we suggested, in the end, a number of classes and lectures which would serve the student to develop the four competences altogether.
