Interconnected Text: Between Terminological Debate and Plurality of Forms in Contemporary Arabic Criticism

Abstract

The postmodern era produced a new form of literature linked to technological means, leading to the emergence of a new cognitive discourse. This gave rise to complex and interconnected conceptual frameworks, often categorized within the realm of writing known as "digital literature." This form of literature stands alongside traditional paper-based writing, distinguishing itself in terms of creativity and reception, starting from the production stage to the reading stage. While both traditional and digital literature share the common factor of textual content, their main difference lies in the medium that carries this text between traditional paper and the pages provided by technological means for facilitating communication between the author and the recipient. This has given rise to the problematic term "hypertext," which is often translated into Arabic as "the interconnected text." Consequently, this research paper aims to explore the concept of digital literature or what is commonly known as "the interconnected text" and its various possible manifestations.
