Abstract

"This semiotic approach to the novel 'The Women of Al-Mahmoudiya: The Secret History of Khorshid in 200 Years' by the Egyptian writer MonirOtaiba aims to uncover the untold history of khorshidregion over the course of two centuries. The literary work in our hands transforms into a rich world of symbols and linguistic and non-linguistic signs that carry infinite meanings and interpretations, depending on various textual contexts. These symbols and signs allude to numerous social, political, and cultural issues experienced and still being experienced by both the Egyptian and Arab societies.
